NAMAKWA NATIONAL PARK
Hi all
I will start sending out weekly updates for the flowers for Namaqua National Park from today. Please let me know if I should remove your name, or if I should add someone else.
Rainfall, Skilpad section, Namaqua National Park:
April 2012: 13.71mm May 2012: 14.74mm June 2012: 86.62mm July 2012: 35.30mm (to date)
The rain is later than the previous year, but fell with good intervals.
The orange daisies are now starting to make a good showing, with nice carpets already visible at the Skilpad section of the park. Surings (Oxalis sp) are also visible in big patches. Some species like the Varkiesknol (Conicosia elongata) and Pietsnot are all making buds and will soon come out en masse. The Skilpad section is already well worth a visit.
The Caracal Ecotrail from Skilpad to Kookfontein is unbelievable, the best the past 5 years. Numerous species are flowering in big patches all along this route. Please note that you will need a 4x4 for this specific track.
The coastal areas have had reasonable rains and we are predicting a good showing here as well.
I will start including some photos from next week onwards.
Kind regards
