Culture << go back

The West Coast offers a vibrant and diverse cultural experience, celebrating the past and present lives of the people of South Africa. In addition to directly preserving, protecting and celebrating our West Coast heritage and culture, we work to support the role players in securing a more hopeful future.

At !Kwa ttu we celebrate the San culture, on the Mission stations the old way of life, and in the quaint little fishing villages we jealously guard the secrets of the fishing trade. Perhaps the region is best described as a fusion of different elements of a West Coast culture, where every town and hamlet is keeping some of the culture alive. Be it the Riel dancing in the Northern part and the “blik kitare” and “blik viole” that accompany it, or the old ways of doing things being practised on the Mission stations.

To a certain extent, time did stand still here – for the better!
