PAPENDORP & EBENAEZER

The small settlements of Ebenhaezer and Papendorp are situated overlooking the Olifants River Estuary. With future recognition as a RAMSAR site the wetlands of the estuary are an important habitat for migratiory birds and an Important Bird Area (IBA) Residents in Papendorp derive their livelihood from fishing in the estuary, while the Ebenhaezer community consist mainly of farmers.

Ebenhaezer

Situated near the mouth of the Olifants River, this historic Mission Station is renowned for its peaceful atmosphere, beautiful scenery and bird life. "Ebenhaezer" or "Stone of help" can be translated as "The Lord has helped us thus far".

Papendorp

The small settlement of Papendorp is situated on the Olifants River estuary. It was founded in 1854 by Sir and Lady Fryer, who was reminded of the moors in Ireland. Economical activities include fishing and eco-tourism. The famous bokkoms are also found here, also known as West Coast Biltong.
